Red Brick Arts

Kissane Viola Design was honored to partner with the City of Aspen on a rebrand for the Red Brick Center for the Arts (RBCA), one of Aspen’s most cherished cultural institutions. Housed in a historic red brick building that once served as Aspen’s original middle and high school, the Red Brick has long been a hub for creativity, supporting artists-in-residence, exhibitions, education, and community engagement. The rebrand needed to respect this rich history while positioning RBCA as a vibrant, forward-looking arts center.

Aspen has a deep and meaningful connection to the Bauhaus, rooted in the mid-century era when influential Bauhaus figures taught and lectured in the city, shaping its architectural and artistic legacy. Drawing inspiration from this history, we felt it was important to nod to Bauhaus design principles, bold geometry, clarity of form, and functional beauty, while interpreting them in a contemporary and approachable way. This influence helped guide a visual identity that feels both grounded in Aspen’s cultural past and relevant to its creative present.

The new RBCA logo was designed to be playful and highly versatile, allowing artwork from artists-in-residence to take center stage. Rather than competing with the art, the logo acts as a flexible frame able to shift and coexist with a wide range of artistic styles. Beyond the logo itself, Kissane Viola Design developed an extended brand guideline and led a full brand rollout. This included creating templates and shared documents to support the RBCA team internally, ensuring the new identity could be easily and consistently applied across communications. The result is a cohesive, dynamic brand system that reflects the Red Brick Center for the Arts as a living, evolving space for creativity in Aspen.
