Building on our work with the City of Aspen and the Red Brick Center for the Arts, Kissane Viola Design was asked to develop a complementary brand for Aspen Public Art, a city program dedicated to bringing art into the public realm—commissioning, curating, and maintaining artworks throughout Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. From large-scale sculptures to temporary installations, the program makes art accessible to everyone, turning streets, parks, and shared spaces into places for creative discovery.

Branching off of the Red Brick Center for the Arts identity, the Aspen Public Art brand was intentionally designed to feel clearly connected. We carried through shared colors and visual cues to reinforce the relationship between the two organizations, while refining the system to be cleaner, simpler, and highly legible. The goal was to create a recognizable identity that supports the artwork rather than competing with it—allowing the public art itself to remain the focal point.

In addition to the core brand elements, KVD developed a suite of flexible materials to help promote public art throughout Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. This included concepts for signage, buttons, stickers, and other touchpoints that could live easily in the urban environment and travel with the community. Each piece was designed to be approachable, durable, and adaptable—extending the reach of the program while maintaining a cohesive visual presence.

At its core, Aspen Public Art’s mission is to create opportunities for people to connect, both with one another and with the art that surrounds them. The new brand supports this vision by offering a welcoming, clear, and cohesive identity for a program that celebrates the incredible creativity woven throughout Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley.
